Hotel Type

Luxury Boutique Resort

From its quaff perch above Cote Sauvage, Le Toiny looks like a turn of the century plantation of interconnected bungalows with pristine white shutters and angular roofline.  A meandering road arrives to this Relaix Chateaux property completely refurbished in 2009 to a sensible modern French aesthetic with airy lobby with small lounge and direct access to the award-winning French-Creole Restaurant Le Gaïac by chef Stephane Mazieres.

An arrangement of cantilevered decks are drawn in a row of perfectly spaced loungers under a semi-circular pool with infinity edge. A series of outlying cottages are home to the Serenity Spa with its body peels, masks and wet shaves for men as well as the gym where a handful of free weights and cardio machines are found. Although the hotel is revered for it's privacy, naturalist sunbathers should beware that it was at the Le Toiny where paparazzi famously photographed Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt nude on their private terrace.

The Room

A series of just 12 villa suites are arranged within colorful pastel bungalows, each with their own private entrance and mailbox feature to give the illusion of a small neighborhood in lieu of a rambling island resort. Captures within a forest of tropical vegetation, privacy is top priority of finicky, mostly Francophile guests that discover spacious (800-sq. ft.) junior suites with large panels of glass that open to outdoor terraces with private 10X20 ft. swimming pools overlooking the Caribbean. On closer inspection, well-selected interiors are defined by four-poster canopy beds with handy mosquito netting, cozy lounge areas with comfy mix-n-match club chairs and small kitchenettes ideal for week-long stays required during holiday high-season. Teak flooring and exotic wood-paneled ceiling are well complimented by colorful bursts of fabric on ottomans and pillows with glass walls drawn in toile drapery fit for even Princess Diana had she not been turned away form the hotel, not just once, but two years in a row.
